Hot air rework = fun

Desoldered and resoldered chips
I got a chance to play around with a hot-air rework station today.  The station is the CSI-825++ from Circuit Specialists Inc.  I just desoldered a bunch of chips from an old modem, and then tried soldering some back on.

It was surprisingly easy - removal was as simple as grabbing the part with tweezers, and going over it with the air for about 5-10 secs and it popped right off.  Soldering a chip on was not much more difficult - apply some liquid flux, hold the part in place, heat it, and then just nudge the part to position it if needed.  Still only takes 10-15 secs of heat.

American Pale Ale
Written by Evan

One of my recent brews, the American Pale Ale II kit from MoreBeer.  1oz of magnum hops for bittering, then hop-bombed in the last 15 mins with 4oz of hops for flavor and aroma.  It came out great - the bitterness was rather harsh when I first got it kegged but after a week in the keg it really mellowed.  Consequently, the keg is emptying FAST.  Have to get my hefeweizen kegged, and figure out what I'm going to do with my Apfelwein.

New host
Written by Evan

So, I've moved the site over to a different host.  I'm paying not quite 50% more than I was before, but I'm getting 66x the storage space and 83x the bandwidth.  Finally I can put all the pictures I want in the articles, and use more high-res images, without having to worry about space and bandwidth.

With that said, because the site is based on a dynamic content management system, transferring to the new host was not as easy as just copying over some files, so it's possible that some things are broken - in which case, please contact me using the link on the menu at left if you run into any problems and I'll take care of them ASAP - at least I know the contact form isn't broken.  (knock on wood)
