Brewing
Written by Evan
Friday, 18 May 2007
I've added a home brewing section to the menu at left.  It's a new hobby of mine, and I've recently started gathering a bunch more equipment, involving a lot of DIY work which I want to document.

Busy

It's been a busy semester for me, hopefully I can get back to doing more frequent updates again before too long.

I updated the code package for the 18F4550 USB Interface article, nothing significant, just added the precompiled HEX to the demo firmware section - I think I must have hit "Clean" in the project options in MPLAB when I put the code package together previously, which removes all unnecessary project files, including the HEX.

I've been working on interfacing an SD memory card on the 18F2550, bit-banging the SPI interface.  So far I've been able to initialize the card, so hopefully it won't be too long before I have it fully operational, and then I'll try to put together an article on it.

Bootloader Update
Written by Evan
Wednesday, 28 March 2007
I've updated the last page of the bootloader article with the latest revision of my more utilitarian version of the bootloader software.  Rob Edwards modified the Microchip bootloader firmware to allow it to enter boot mode based not only on button presses, but also on a 'flag' value written to a particular EEPROM location, so by writing this flag value in user code and resetting, bootload mode can be entered entirely in software.  The bootloader HEX is available, and I've added a button to the bootloader software to send the command 0xFE to the PIC (assuming you're using the 'generic' type device described in my other tutorials).  All that you need to do is write the flag value to EEPROM in your user code when this command is received, and then the bootloader program has full control of user/boot mode.
